The Alfred State College softball team won two of three games in a tripleheader in Myrtle Beach, SC on Wednesday.  The Lady Pioneers downed Genesee CC 6-5 and Massasoit (MA) CC 11-0 but fell 9-1 to Dutchess CC in the final game of the day.

The Alfred State College softball team won two of three games in a tripleheader in Myrtle Beach, SC on Wednesday.  The Lady Pioneers downed Genesee CC 6-5 and Massasoit (MA) CC 11-0 but fell 9-1 to Dutchess CC in the final game of the day.

Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work to earn the victory over Genesee.  She allowed eight hits while walking two and striking out eight.  Kathy McCarthy (Orchard Park) led the offense with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day while Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Hilary York (Canisteo Greenwood) drove home a run, Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) scored twice, and Leandra Spoor (Laurens) was 1 for 2. 

Versus Massasoit, Jessica Herbst (Naples) earned her first collegiate victory with five shutout innings on the mound.  Loder led the offense with a 3 for 4 day while Spoor was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Heather Gerace (Avon) connected on a two-run pinch hit homer in her lone at bat of the day.

In the nightcap, Alfred State was held to just three hits and fell to Dutchess.  York was 1 for 2 with a double and tossed two innings of one run relief.

ASC (2-3 on the season) will play another tripleheader on Thursday, taking on Potomac State (WV) at 9 a.m., Southwestern (IA) CC at 11 a.m., and Dutchess CC at 1 p.m.
