Lady Pioneers Win Third Straight

The Alfred State College women's soccer team recorded their third straight victory with a 4-1 come-from-behind victory over Genesee CC on Tuesday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 5-2 (4-2 Region III Division III, 3-0 WNYAC) with the win while the Cougars fall to 1-9-1.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team recorded their third straight victory with a 4-1 come-from-behind victory over Genesee CC on Tuesday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 5-2 (4-2 Region III Division III, 3-0 WNYAC) with the win while the Cougars fall to 1-9-1.

Genesee got on the board first when Heather Magro scored a direct kick with 27:28 remaining in the 1st half.  Brittany Hannah (Eastridge) tied it up at 1-1 heading into halftime when she scored with 6:14 remaining.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) gave the Blue & Gold their first lead of the contest when she scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.  Her second goal was assisted by Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove).  Hannah put the game out of reach when she scored her second of the game on a penalty kick with 21:44 remaining.

Alfred State held a 23 to 11 shot advantage.  Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) made six saves in net to register the victory.

The Lady Pioneers wrap up their five game homestand on Thursday when they take on #1 ranked and 9-0 Broome CC.  The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
