Lady Pioneers Win Jefferson Tourney

The Alfred State College volleyball team won the Jefferson CC Tournament on Saturday.  On the day, the Lady Pioneers were 4-1 and improve to 5-4 on the young season.

The Alfred State College volleyball team won the Jefferson CC Tournament on Saturday.  On the day, the Lady Pioneers were 4-1 and improve to 5-4 on the young season.

In pool play, ASC defeated Monroe CC 25-17 & 25-18 and Tompkins Cortland CC 25-22 & 25-19 but fell 15-25 & 19-25 to Onondaga CC.

The blue & gold advanced to the semifinals as the #2 seed and defeated Erie CC 25-21 & 25-22 to advance to the finals and a re-match with Onondaga CC.  After dropping the first game 11-25, the Lady Pioneers rallied and won the next two games 25-17 & 15-9 to claim the tournament crown.

Brittany Haines (Salamanca) and Kelley Dumbleton (Warsaw) led the way for Alfred.  Haines passed out 91 assists and was credited with 61 digs, 13 kills, and five aces.  Dumbleton added 40 digs, 39 kills, and six service aces.  She also registered 54 points on her serve for the day.

Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) had 26 kills, Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) had 20 kills and seven blocks, Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) finished with 31 digs, and Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) chipped in 18 digs, eight aces, and seven kills.

ASC returns to action on Thursday to take on Monroe CC in their WNYAC contest.  Action at the Orvis Activities Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
