Lady Pioneers take over Top Spot in Women's Soccer Poll

After weeks of sitting in the top five, the Alfred State women's soccer team has vaulted to the #1 spot in this week's NJCAA Division III poll. The Lady Pioneers jumped up four spots from last week's poll to earn the program's first ever top ranking.

After weeks of sitting in the top five, the Alfred State women's soccer team has vaulted to the #1 spot in this week's NJCAA Division III poll.  The Lady Pioneers jumped up four spots from last week's poll to earn the program's first ever top ranking.


The blue & gold are 15-1 on the season and are riding a 15 game winning streak into their regular season finale vs. Penn College this evening.  In Region III Division III games the Lady Pioneers are 12-0 on the year and they have a 7-0 mark in WNYAC contests.  On the year, the Lady Pioneers have outscored opponents 64 to 7 on the year.


Alfred heads the poll followed by Ocean County College, Finger Lakes CC, Mohawk Valley CC, and Brookdale CC.  Ocean had held the #1 spot since the second week of the poll.  Gloucester CC, Bunker Hill CC, Holyoke, Mountain View College, and Brookhaven College round out the top ten.


Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) leads the Lady Pioneers offense with 27 goals and seven assists.  High school teammate Hannah Holmok is 2nd on the team with 26 points (10 goals and six assists).  Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) has been in net for 15 games and has a 0.48 goals against average.  Maura Tuffey (Albany/Holy Names), Kelsey Murray (Greece Olympia), and Kelly Stieve (Brockport) have been a solid back line in front of DeCarlo.


After Wednesday non-NJCAA match-up with Penn College the Lady Pioneers will await the seeding for the Region III Division III Tournament.  Alfred should be the #1 seed and will receive a bye in the 1st round but would host the winner of the #8/#9 matchup in a Regional Semifinal on Tuesday October 23rd.
