Lady Pioneers to take on Genesee in Regionals

The Alfred State College women's soccer team will battle #5 Genesee CC in their Region III Division III Pool A semifinal match-up.  ASC and GCC will square off at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team will battle #5 Genesee CC in their Region III Division III Pool A semifinal match-up.  ASC and GCC will square off at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The #4 seeded Pioneers will enter the contest with a 10-2-3 mark (9-2-2 in Region III Division III play) while the Cougars are 9-8-1 on the year following a 5-2 victory over #12 seeded Clinton CC on Saturday afternoon in a regional first round match-up.

The winner of this Pool A semifinal will travel to Tompkins Cortland CC on Saturday for the Pool A Championship game versus the winner of #1 Herkimer CCC and #8 Jamestown Olean.  The game is scheduled to begin at Noon.

The Lady Pioneers defeated the Lady Cougars 3-0 in their earlier match-up this season.  The contest played in Batavia was scoreless until the blue & gold scored three goals in the final 17 minutes of the game.

ASC's offense has been led by Jessie Smith (Fredonia).  She has 10 goals and four assists on the year.  Therese Hubbel (Bishop Kearney) has added six goals while Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove) has three goals and four helpers.

The defensive unit of Audrey Rath (Medina), Chelsea Lafayette (Eastridge), and Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia) along with goalie Mo Parks (Avoca) have held opponents to just six goals on the season (0.38 goals against average).
