The Alfred State College softball team climbed over .500 with a doubleheader sweep of Niagara CCC, 9-0 and 9-7.  The Lady Pioneers are now 9-8 on the season and 6-2 in Region III Division III play.

The Alfred State College softball team climbed over .500 with a doubleheader sweep of Niagara CCC, 9-0 and 9-7.  The Lady Pioneers are now 9-8 on the season and 6-2 in Region III Division III play.

In the opener, Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) tossed a one-hitter.  She struck out six to improve to 6-6 on the year.  Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) was 2 for 4 with an RBI to pace the offense while Katie Marlow (Franklin Academy) was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI.  Kelly Eagan (Royalton-Hartland) and Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) each were 1 for 2.

In the nightcap, Katherine McCarthy (Orchard Park) connected on a double to plate the winning run in the 8th inning.  McCarthy came around to score an insurance run on a Marlowe single.  ASC trailed 7-4 but scored two in the 6th and one in the 7th to send the game into extra frames.

Fitzpatrick was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Theleman was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI.  Theleman came out of the bullpen and tossed four innings to earn win #7 on the year.  Jessica Herbst (Naples) struck out seven in the first four innings of the game.

ASC returns home on Thursday to take on Genesee CC.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
