Lady Pioneers Rebound, Advance to Consolation Finals

The Alfred State College volleyball team struggled in their NJCAA Division III quarterfinal match-up and fell 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 9-25 to #5 seed Hibbing (MN) CC.  The Lady Pioneers were able to bounce right back in a consolation bracket contest, downing Anne Arundel (MD) CC 25-15, 25-16, and 25-9.

The Alfred State College volleyball team struggled in their NJCAA Division III quarterfinal match-up and fell 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 9-25 to #5 seed Hibbing (MN) CC.  The Lady Pioneers were able to bounce right back in a consolation bracket contest, downing Anne Arundel (MD) CC 25-15, 25-16, and 25-9.

Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) led the way with 17 kills (only one error), 13 digs, and four blocks versus Hibbing.  Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) had a team high 19 digs, five kills, and two aces, Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) finised with 13 digs and seven kills, and Emily Linn (Portville) chipped in six kills and seven digs.  Breanna Horton (Owego Free) passed out 31 assists and was credited with 11 digs and three blocks.  Chrissy Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) added eight digs.

Linn had a big game versus Anne Arundel.  She finished with 12 kills, seven digs, and three aces.  Jerome chipped in 11 kills and six digs, Toyodome finished with 10 kills, eight digs, and three blocks, and Inoue finished with 15 digs.  Horton passed out 28 assists and added nine digs.

ASC is now 37-4 on the year.  The 37 wins is the most during Coach Gene Doorley's tenure. 

The Pioneers advance to the 4th/6th place match on Saturday morning.  They will take on #6 seed Nassau CC at 10 a.m. (CST) looking for the best finish at the National Tournament in school history.
