Lady Pioneers Rally Falls Short

Trailing 38-26 at half, the Alfred State College women's basketball team rallied and had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds but fell 73-71 to Cuyahoga (OH) CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-2 on the season.

Trailing 38-26 at half, the Alfred State College women's basketball team rallied and had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds but fell 73-71 to Cuyahoga (OH) CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-2 on the season.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) took the Lady Pioneers on her shoulders in the second half. She netted 26 of her career high 38 points in the second half to get the blue & gold back in the game.  Shawna McNeil (Hornell) and Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) each finished with nine points while Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) had seven.

Brooks who has scored over twenty points in all seven games this season is averaging 28.3 points per game (198 total points).

The Pioneers had a shot to take the lead in the final seconds.  ASC trailed 72-71 and had the ball but turned the ball over and was forced to foul.  Cuyahoga hit one of two foul shots to seal the victory.

Alfred State returns to the Orvis Activities Center on Saturday when they host the annual ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers take on Jefferson CC at Noon while Genesee CC takes on Fulton Montgomery CC at 2 p.m.
