The Alfred State College women's basketball team could not overcome 30 turnovers and saw Broome CC rally for a 63-57 victory in the Lady Pioneers season opener.  Broome improves to 3-0 on the young season with the victory.

With 2:38 remaining the game was knotted at 53-53.  The Lady Hornets went on a 10 to 4 run to close out the game to seal the victory.  In total the game featured six ties and 13 lead changes.

Aimee Kellicutt led BCC with 21 points while Alyssa Polosky and Brittany Finkle each finished with 13.  Lindsay Osman was the fourth Hornet in double-figures finishing with 10.

Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) led the Lady Pioneers with 21 points while Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) added five points and 10 boards, Kristin Abbott (Webster Thomas) chipped in four points and 10 boards in 36 minutes of play.

The Hornets shot 33.3% from the field, 15.4% from three, and 81.3% from the foul line while the Pioneers shot 37.5% from the field, 11.1% from three, and 53.3% from the line.  A-State held a 57 to 36 advantage on the boards including a 21 to 14 advantage on the offensive boards.  Broome turned the ball over just 14 times.

The Lady Pioneers will look to even up their record on Thursday when they play their home opener versus Corning CC.  Opening tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center.
