Coach Gina Boyd and the Alfred State College women's basketball team will enter the Region III Division II Tournament this week as the #5 seed and will travel to #4 Erie CC for a first round match-up on Wednesday.
ASC (11-15, 2-8 Region III Division II) and ECC (11-16, 5-5 RIII DII) split their two regular season contest with both teams winning on their home court. Erie earned a 60-52 victory on January 30th at the Flickenger Center while Alfred earned a 73-68 win last Tuesday.
The blue & gold are led by Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free). Brooks is averaging 21.6 points per game this season and became the first Lady Pioneers to score 1,000 points in their career on Saturday. Shawna McNeil (Hornell) has had a solid second half of the season and is averaging 8.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds.
Tip-off on Wednesday is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Flickenger Center in downtown Buffalo. The winner advances to the semifinals on Saturday in Jamestown to take on the #1 seeded Lady Jayhawks from JCC at 1 p.m. #2 Genesee CC and #3 Mercyhurst North East will battle at 3 p.m. The winner of the semifinals will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the regional crown with the winner advancing to the District playoff on March 6.
