Lady Pioneers battle tough vs. Broome

The Alfred State College softball team battled tough in a doubleheader at Broome CC but came away with two hard fought losses.  The Blue and Gold fell 10-3 in the opener and then couldn't rally all the way back from a 4-1 hole and fell 4-3 in game two.

The Alfred State College softball team battled tough in a doubleheader at Broome CC but came away with two hard fought losses.  The Blue and Gold fell 10-3 in the opener and then couldn't rally all the way back from a 4-1 hole and fell 4-3 in game two.

Kathy McCarthy (Orchard Park) led the offense in the opener with a 2 for 3 performance.  Casey Downing (Cobleskill-Richmondville) was 1 for 3 with a two-RBI double while Caitlin Neill (Alfred Almond) was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers trailed 4-1 heading into the 7th inning.  ASC cut the lead to 4-3 and had the tying run on second base with two outs when the Hornets recorded the final out.

Shelly Flint (Alfred Almond) was 2 for 2 on the day while Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Bridgett Bachert (Horseheads) was 2 for 4 with a triple and a RBI.

The Lady Pioneers are now 8-24 on the season and will host Corning CC on Thursday at 3 p.m.
