Kathy Feldman, athletic director at Alfred State College, has announced the hiring of Mark Kanellis as the college’s new lacrosse coach.  Kanellis will also serve as the director of intramurals.

Kanellis played at Nazareth College for the Golden Flyers between 2004 and 2008.  He was a captain of the 2008 squad, played in the North-South game, and was the Block ‘N’ Award recipient.  During his four year career, Kanellis appeared in 56 games and netted 13 goals and five assists.  He also picked up 66 ground balls.

Kanellis has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in economics and sport management from Nazareth and a master’s degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland.

Previously, Kanellis has coached at Cortland High School, served as a camp counselor at the Nazareth lacrosse camp, the Players Choice lacrosse camp, and the All-American lacrosse camp. 

Kanellis inherits a Pioneer team that has qualified for the Region III Tournament eight of the past nine years and has had eight players named NJCAA All-American.  The 2009 squad was ranked as high as #9 in the national poll and finished 10-4.
