Hoag and the Hornet starter matched zeros over nine innings until the blue & gold were able to get on the board.  In the top of the 10th, Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) singled went to second on a sac bunt and scored on a single by Eric Mehaffy (Lisbon).  Hoag made it stand up and earned his first victory of the spring season.  He finished the day allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out 17.  Wheaton led the Pioneers with a 2-4 offensive day.

In the nightcap, Alfred scored din the 1st inning on a RBI groundout by Eric Hicks (Hancock, PA) but couldn't muster any more offense the rest of the way.  The Hornets answered the Pioneer run in the 1st inning with five of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Only two of the runs were earned.

The Pioneers (2-10, 1-1 RIII DIII) and the Hornets continue their four-game series on Sunday when they battle at Alfred State.  First pitch of the doubleheader has been moved up to 11 a.m. in hopes to beat forecasted poor weather.
