Alfred State College's Schuyler Duross (Johnstown) won the Region III Decathlon championship with a strong performance the past two days.  Shawn McNeil (Hornell) finished 3rd in the heptathlon

Duross had the best performance in five of the ten events.  He won the 100 m (11.5), the 400 m (52.8), the 110 high hurdles (17.7), the pole vault (3.66 m), and the 1,500 (5:11.8).  He accumulated 5,232 points in the compeition and was 176 points better than Aaron Ryan from Erie CC.

McNeil finished the competition with 3,275 points.  She was the top performer in the high jump (1.49 m) and the 800 (2:50.4).  She finished 98 points behind the overall winner and 28 points out of 2nd place.

Jarrod Glasser (Webster Schroeder) finished 6th in the decathlon with a score of 3,657.

The Pioneers will return to Erie CC's Orchard Park campus on Friday for the rest of the Region III Championships.  The championship begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and runs all day Saturday.
