Bill Drake (Hornell) will continue his collegiate career at Mayville State University (Mayville, ND).  Drake joins the Comets football team this spring after a strong two year career wearing the blue & gold at Alfred State.

Drake spent time as a starter on both sides of the ball during his career at Alfred State.  Drake played primarily on the offensive side of the ball his freshman year before playing on both sides as a sophomore.  He recorded 11 tackles (two for a loss) and broke up a pass in 2008.

"Mayville provides the best road for me to reach my goals.  It has one of the nation's top educational degree programs, the coaches were the type that I was looking for, and I fill their need for someone to play on the starting defensive line.  I also liked the size of the school.  The transition from ASC to Mayville State will be small since the school holds only 800 students.  The facilities are top notch as well, including a 7,000 square feet weight room, pro style locker rooms, and a field turf playing surface."

Alfred State College head coach Mick Caba is excited to see Drake with the opportunity to continue his playing career. "It is great to see Bill's perseverance and hardwork pay off.  We were disappointed not to get Bill to come to Alfred State right out of high school but were ecstatic to have him join our program after Mansfield dropped football.  His work ethic and leadership on the football field and in the classroom (over a 3.0 GPA) were outstanding. "

Mayville State is a member of the Dakota Athletic Conference of the NAIA.  The Comets, coached by second year head coach Nathan Chin, finished the 2008 season with a 1-9 mark.

"Thanks to my family, past coaches, and the great staff at Alfred State I was able to obtain this success and they were a big part of my decision."
