Cross Country Teams Ranked 4th and 6th, Fung and Sweeney Named All-Region

Alfred State men's cross country team is ranked 4th while the women's team is ranked 6th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.  The men's team finished third at the Region III championships while the women finished fifth.

Alfred State men's cross country team is ranked 4th while the women's team is ranked 6th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.  The men's team finished third at the Region III championships while the women finished fifth. 

John Sweeney (Barker) finished ninth out of 61 runners with a time of 30:14 in the men's race and Adam McDevitt (Fabius-Pompey) finished 16th.  Ashley Fung (Greenwich) finished sixth out of 58 runners with a time of 21:51 in the women's race and Kaleigh Ligoci finished 18th in 23:24.  Based on their top 10 finishes Sweeney and Fung were each named to the Region III All-Region Team.

Sweeney has led the Pioneers with three top 10 finishes this season including a first place finish at the Alfred State Invitational.  His best five mile time (27:40) came at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational.  Fung has led the Pioneer women with four top 10 finishes including a first place finish at the Alfred State Invitational.  Her best time (20:04) in a five kilometer race also came at the Highlander Invitational.

ASC will next compete at the NJCAA National Championships on November 8 at the CC of Rhode Island in Warwick, RI.
