Cross Country Remains Steady in National Poll

The Alfred State College cross country teams have held steady in the latest NJCAA Division III Cross Country poll.  The men are ranked #3 while the women are ranked #5.

The Alfred State College cross country teams have held steady in the latest NJCAA Division III Cross Country poll.  The men are ranked #3 while the women are ranked #5.

The men's team is coming off a winning performance at the Nazareth Inviational.  The Pioneers were led by John Sweeney (Barker).  Sweeney finished 2nd overall finishing in 18:32.24.  ASC defeated seven 4-year schools that competed in the race.

ASC continues to trail SUNY Delhi (400 points) and Mohawk Valley CC (350 points) in the poll.  The Pioneers 330 points is 70 points more the #4 Howard (MD) CC.  Region III foes Broome CC (#5) and Finger Lakes CC (#10) are also in the poll this week.

The women finished 3rd this past weekend at the Nazareth Invitational.  Carey Crooker (Addison) led the way with a 3rd place finish.  She crossed the finish line in 16:33.97.  The Lady Pioneers defeated five 4-year schools in the competition.

ASC earned 250 points to earn the #5 spot in the poll.  Ocean (NJ) CC is ranked #1, Broome CC #2, Mohawk Valley CC #3, and SUNY Delhi #4.

Both the men and women will jump back into action on Saturday when they compete at the University of Rochester Invitational.  The starting gun is scheduled to go off at 11 a.m.
