Cross Country: Men Win, Women 3rd at Nazareth

The Alfred State College men's team won the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational while the women finished in 3rd.  The men, ranked #3 in NJCAA Division III, scored a 27 to beat out the other eight teams in competition while the women scored a 91.

The Alfred State College men's team won the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational while the women finished in 3rd.  The men, ranked #3 in NJCAA Division III, scored a 27 to beat out the other eight teams in competition while the women scored a 91.

John Sweeney (Barker) led the men with a 2nd place finish.  He crossed the finish line in 18:32.24.  Finishing right behind him in 3rd place was Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) in 18:39.74.  Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) finished 6th (18:53.74), Joe Seitz (Williamsville) was 7th (18:54.84), and Logan Drummer (Pioneer) was 10th (19:13.92).

ASC's 27 points was ahead of host Nazareth (42), Finger Lakes CC (102), Daemen College (105), SUNY ESF (118), Keuka College (164), Medaille College (213), Hilbert College (221), and D'Youville College (252).

Carey Crooker (Addison) led the Lady Pioneers with a 3rd place finish on the women's side.  She crossed the finish line in 16:33.97.  Bridget McMahon (Avoca) finished 22nd (17:57.47), Maria Wilson (Addison) finished 23rd (17:58.61), and Laura Babcock (Wellsville) finished 33rd (18:32.24).  Allyne O'Hearn (Pelham, NH) rounded out the ASC top five in 38th place (19:03.16).

Nazareth College won the women's race with 24 points followed by Daemen (78), ASC (91), SUNY ESF (109), D'Youville (124), Keuka (131), Finger Lakes CC (189), Medaille (193), and Wells College (194).

Both the men and women return to action next Saturday in Rochester when they compete in the University of Rochester Invitational.  Action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Genesee Valley Park.
