The Alfred State cross country teams had a strong showing at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational on Saturday. The men's team finished 7th out of 15 teams while the women were 9th out of 13 teams.

The Alfred State cross country teams had a strong showing at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational on Saturday.  The men's team finished 7th out of 15 teams while the women were 9th out of 13 teams.


Jordan Rusek (Williamsville Easat) led the Pioneer men with a 27th place finish.  He crossed the line of the 8k course in 28:02.7.  Casey Hopkins (Hamburg) was 40th (28:42.1), Jedadiah Platt (Barker) was 46th (29:11.2), Zachary Hale (Greece Athena) was 51st (29:29.6).  Logan Phillips (Genesee Valley) was the Pioneer 5th man finishing in 58th (30:08.8).


The Pioneers men scored 207 points on the day.  Brockport won the competition with 19 points.  Alfred was the top junior college team in the race and beat a handful of 4-year colleges.


Kim lupo (Auburn) led the women in the 5k course.  She finished 49th in 21:15.3.  Megan Dillon (Lake Shore) was 62nd (21:36.4), Claire Holleran (Penfield) was 66th (21:43), Katy Monahan (Warsaw) was 83rd (22:13), and Anna Burkett (Frewsburg) was 91st (22:55.2).


RIT took home the women's crown with a score of 39.  Alfred finished with a score of 262.


The blue & gold have next weekend off but return to action on October 6th when they travel to the Hamilton College Invitational.
