Alfred State College women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week. Brooks led her team to the championship of the ASC Tournament with victories over Jefferson CC, 63-45, and Dean College, 76-69.
Versus Jefferson, Brooks was 9 for 17 from the field and 4 for 6 from the foul line to lead the team with 22 points. She also grabbed 10 reboudns, passed out two assists, and was credited with two steals in 33 minutes of play.
In the tight championship game, Brooks was 8 for 15 from the field and 9 for 12 from the charity stripe for a game-high 26 points. She also grabbed 4 rebounds, blocked two shots, and came up with one steal.
For her solid play she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
On the year she leads the team with a 16.3 points per game average (114 points). She is also averaging 6.3 rebound for the 3-4 Lady Pioneers.
