Brooks and Conway Lead ASC past Orange

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) led the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 82-72 victory SUNY Orange.  The Lady Pioneers are now 4-1 on the year while the Lady Colts fall to 1-2.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) led the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 82-72 victory SUNY Orange.  The Lady Pioneers are now 4-1 on the year while the Lady Colts fall to 1-2.

Brooks led all scorers with 29 points and six rebounds while Conway finished with 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Megan Coates (Nazareth) added 12 points and Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) finished with 10 points and eight boards.

Ceara Williams led the Colts with 25 points and nine boards while Colleen Decker chipped in 22 points and 15 rebounds.  Tiana Taylor finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

ASC led 38-29 at half but Orange came out of halftime and erased the deficit and led by as many as seven, 57-50, before the Lady Pioneers rallied and took the lead back at 69-68.  ASC then went on a 13 to 4 run to close the game.

The Lady Pioneers shot 39% from the field and 38.9% (7 for 18) from three while the Colts shot 42.6% from the field and 50% (5 for 10) from three.  Orange was slowed by 33 turnovers.

The blue & gold return to action on Tuesday when they host Houghton College JV at 6 p.m.
