The Alfred State College baseball team split a WNYAC doubleheader with Monroe CC in Rochester on Saturday.  ASC fell 8-3 in the opener but rebounded for a 4-2 victory in game two.

Monroe erased a 2-1 deficit in the opener with three runs in the bottom of the 2nd and never looked back.  Travis Fenstermaker (LeRoy) was 2 for 2 while Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 2 for 3 for the ASC offense.  JP Frey (Erie, PA) added a triple.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work on the mound for the Pioneers.

Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) continued his impressive fall season with the complete game victory in game two.  He allowed six hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out six to pick up his second win (2-1).

He got the offensive help he need in the 4th when Tyler Ward (Bishop Kearney) hit a two-out, two-run single to erase a 1-0 lead and key a three-run inning.  Steve Smith (Hornell) added an insurance run in the 7th with a RBI single.  Smith and Frey each finished with two hits for ASC.

Alfred State is now 4-4 in the fall season and will play a non-WNYAC doubleheader on Sunday when they host Penn Tech.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
