Baseball gets back on track with sweep of Onondaga

The Alfred State College baseball team snapped a three-game slide with a doubleheader sweep at Onondaga CC.  ASC held on to win the opener 13-11 and won the nightcap 8-4.  The Blue and Gold are now 22-12-1 on the season.

The Alfred State College baseball team snapped a three-game slide with a doubleheader sweep at Onondaga CC.  ASC held on to win the opener 13-11 and won the nightcap 8-4.  The Blue and Gold are now 22-12-1 on the season.

A-State jumped out to a 9-2 lead after two innings but the Lazers rallied and made the game close.  The final out of the game was recorded the winning run at bat.

Donny Smith (Brighton) recorded his first three-hit game finishing 3 for 5 with a RBI.  Kevin Underhill (Somers) was 2 for 2 with a 2 RBI, Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was 2 for 4.  Craig Kosnikowski (N. Tonawanda) allowed two earned runs in six innings of work to earn the victory.

O'Brien delivered the key hit in game two  With the Pioneers leading 3-2 in the 5th, O'Brien connected on a 2 RBI double.

Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 3 for 3 with three runs scored in the nightcap.  Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and Derek Speaker (Starpoint) was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI.  Joel Green (Horseheads) tossed a complete game to earn his 5th victory of the year.

The Pioneers play their final regular season games on Tuesday when they travel to Finger Lakes CC for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
