Friends, relatives, and colleagues of the late Alice Foust gathered on the Alfred State College campus recently to dedicate a bench and garden in her memory. Foust, who served as a cleaner on campus until her retirement in 2005, lost her battle with cancer last year.
Friends, relatives, and colleagues of the late Alice Foust gathered on the Alfred State College campus recently to dedicate a bench and garden in her memory. Foust, who served as a cleaner on campus until her retirement in 2005, lost her battle with cancer last year. Diane Winans, payroll clerk in the Human Resources Department at the college, and close friend of Foust, spearheaded the effort to raise the $2,500 necessary to buy a bench, plaque, and perennial upkeep of the small garden surrounding the bench. Within six weeks, scores of Foust's friends and her family contributed to make the tribute a reality. Alfred State College President Dr. John M. Anderson, who presided over the dedication, invited those gathered to share their remembrances of Alice. One of the assemblage, 13-year-old Dylan Yates, West Almond, a neighbor of Foust's, recalled fond memories of his friend. Yates, who was also a contributor to the bench, concluded with "I miss her and hope she has a peaceful time in heaven." Pictured here, Anderson listens as Yates reminisces about his friend Alice. Anderson then invited Yates to help him unveil the memorial plaque which reads: "Alice Foust-You will be forever missed. Your Loving Husband, Alfred State Family, Friends and Neighbors."
