In a back and forth soccer match at Pioneer Stadium, Genesee CC advanced to the Region III Division III Pool A finals with a 7-6 penalty kick victory over Alfred State College.  ASC and GCC both scored twice in the first half but neither team could find the back of the net in the second half or either of the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Genesee got on the board first with 37:57 remaining in the first half when Chelsea Williams found the back of the net.  Ginette Cornett (Potsdam) answered for the Lady Pioneers seven minutes late after getting a pass from Makenzie Finnemore (Genesee Valley).  With 20:02 remaining in the half, Jessie Smith (Fredonia) found Shawna McNeil (Hornell) who scored to put the Lady Pioneers in the lead.  GCC's Particia Capwell capitalized on a opportunity following a corner kick in the final minute of the half (49 seconds) to tie the game.

Genesee controlled the play of most of the second half and limited ASC to just one shot.  In the overtime periods the Lady Pioneers got the offense clicking and had more scoring opportunities but couldn't put one past Leslie George.

In the penalty kicks ASC jumped to a 3-2 lead and had three different opportunities to win the match but were unable to get the winner.  In the 10th round, Kelsey Traxler scored and Haley Post's (Jasper Troupsburg) shot rang off the top crossbar and out of the net to seal the victory for GCC.

Smith, Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), Audrey Rath (Medina), Morgan Scholla (Genesee Valley), Emma Pollok (Fredonia), and Kassandra Durant (Ilion) scored for Alfred State in the shutout.

Mo Parks (Avoca) and Leslie George each made one clean save each during the shootout.

Parks finished with eight saves while George made five stops.

Alfred State wraps up the 2009 campaign with a 10-2-4 mark while #5 Genesee CC moves on to the Region III Division III Pool A final on Saturday at Tompkins Cortland CC versus #1 Herkimer CCC.
