The #5 ranked Herkimer CCC softball team swept a pair of Region III Division III contests as Alfred State opened up the home portion of their schedule.  The Generals earned 1-0 and 6-1 victories.

The #5 ranked Herkimer CCC softball team swept a pair of Region III Division III contests as Alfred State opened up the home portion of their schedule.  The Generals earned 1-0 and 6-1 victories.

In the opener, Natalie Sylvester (Perry) and Krista Oakes locked up in a pitcher's duel.  Sylvester allowed an unearned run in the 6th inning while Oakes held the Pioneers to just three hits and struck out ten.  Sylvester allowed just four hits and struck out four on the day.  Amber Harding (Fillmore) collected two singles in three at-bats for the Lady Pioneers.

ASC got on board in the 1st inning of the nightcap without a hit but HCCC answered with a single run in the 2nd and 4th to gain the lead and then added to their lead with three in the 5th and another in the 7th.  Angela Depew (Wellsville) drove in the lone run with a RBI groundout.  Mollee Putnam tossed a seven-inning no-hitter for the Generals to earn the win.  She struck out four and allowed just three base runners.

The blue & gold (5-9, 2-4 Region III Division III) hit the road on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Niagara CCC.
