Orientation 2024

New StudentOrientation

Choose Your Date and Sign Up

Alfred State prepares you to be a Pioneer and answers all your questions. At orientation you'll learn where to eat, what fun things to do, how to make new friends, when you'll be in classes and labs with your new class schedule, who can provide you support, and why being a Pioneer is so great.

Orientation puts students on the right track for success and we also invite guests such as parents and siblings to come learn all about Alfred State. Online learning students will receive virtual orientation information by email to prepare for their classes.

For on-campus orientation, bring comfortable walking shoes because we're going to show you so many cool and fun things. Student Orientation Leaders will share what college life is really like and outline all the support that ASC offers.

"The orientation team was very helpful and I enjoyed talking to them and getting to know other students. It’s super helpful to hear their experiences. I appreciated that very much."

"Prior to my son starting in August, I was very impressed with how organized it was and how welcoming all the staff and current students were. I also appreciated the food. It was delicious.”

"The amount of fun and how much it reminds me of home really blew me away. It was important to find my place and meet some great people before moving in.”

"I've known that this school helps students succeed, however I did not expect how they went above and beyond to help us. It’s also great to see how much fun you can have on campus."

You can arrive on July 7, July 11, or July 18 and spend the night before your orientation session. Be even more immersed in campus life and build deeper connections with the extra time. The overnight stay is only $20 for dinner, evening activities, and a night in the MacKenzie Complex.

Orientation leaders are current students who guide you, share their own experiences, help you adjust to Alfred State, and grow into a Pioneer Pro. By staying overnight, you learn so much more about our campus and discover the many resources and services available.

How Does Orientation Help?

A special overnight orientation experience on July 14 is reserved exclusively for NYC students.

Reservations are $70 per student, and those who attend will receive a $50 refund as our thanks for coming. We provide roundtrip bus service, dinner, overnight housing, breakfast, and lunch before returning to the city. The bus is available to students only and will be chaperoned; sorry, no guests. It is recommended students pack a lunch or bring money for food along the way.

The bus will leave from the SUNY College of Optometry (33 West 42nd St., across from Bryant Park). Students must arrive by 9:30 a.m. for check-in and the bus leaves promptly at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 14, and will return to the same location at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, July 15.

Students must sign up to reserve a seat on the bus. Your bus seat is not guaranteed until payment is processed.

Overnight Accommodations

The overnight option for orientation is based in our MacKenzie Complex. Students will NOT be in the same rooms where they will live this fall semester. Students and any family guests will be assigned to different rooms so please pack accordingly.

All overnight guests will be provided with linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. You may want to bring a fan and umbrella as Alfred's weather can be unpredictable. Check-in begins at 4 p.m. in MacKenzie Commons.

Parents & Guests are Welcome

Starting college is a big family event and Alfred State works hard to keep parents in the know about what's happening on campus. That's why we welcome parents and other guests to join us for orientation to see what life in Alfred is all about.

You can also get a jumpstart on orientation by checking in the night before. The overnight program costs $20 per parent or guest and includes dinner, information sessions, and an overnight stay in the MacKenzie Complex.

Overnight sessions include various programs specifically built for students or family members, walking tours of campus, and an evening social. All sessions offer the opportunity to ask questions of our dedicated staff and student orientation leaders.

Sibling Orientation

Alfred State College is excited to host Sibling Orientation in conjunction with New Student Orientation. This program is for first-year ASC students to invite brothers and sisters who will be in grades 7-12 in the following fall semester.

Participants in sibling orientation are engaged in separate activities and informational sessions. This allows families and supporters to focus on information to enhance their students' college success while providing an opportunity for siblings to engage in specialized interactive fun and games.

Simply add a relative to your registration form so they can share your Pioneer Pride in Alfred State!
