Alfred State College freshman Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) earned a 6th place finish at the 2011 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships in Spokane, WA.

Lady Pioneers Fall in Semifinals

The Alfred State College women's basketball teams 2010-11 season came to an end following a 78-65 loss to #1 seed Genesee CC in the semifinals of the Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers, the #4 seed, conclude the season with a 14-14 mark while the Cougars will take on #3 Mercyhurst North East in the tournament finals on Sunday.

Alfred State College freshman wrestler Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) has advanced to the NJCAA Wrestling National Championships semifinals in the 149 lb. weight class.  Peet and the Pioneers sit in 28th place after day one of competition in Spokane, WA.

After a slow start, the Alfred State College women’s basketball team got it going and was able to defeat Niagara CCC 67-59 in a Region III Division II Tournament 1st Round contest.  The Pioneerswill take on the #1 seed Genesee CC on Saturday in the regional final four.

Alfred State College wrestling coach George Porter and five Pioneer wrestlers will head to Spokane, WA to compete at the 2011 NJCAA National Championships this weekend.  Wrestling begins on Friday and runs until Saturday evening when the champions are crowned.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team has earned the #4 seed in the Region III Division II Tournament and will host #5 Niagara CCC in a first round contest on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  The Lady Pioneers are 3-7 in region play while the Thunder Wolves are 2-8.

ASC to Host Third Annual Technology Challenge

The competition is technically a two-day event intended to provide an opportunity for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to showcase their technology and business skills. The competition includes three aspects: --the design and construction of a solar oven; --the redesign and construction of a robot; and --the production of a business plan for system.

Science and Technology Fair entries from regional junior and senior high school students will be judged in the following categories: agriculture, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, computers, earth sciences, engineering, environmental science, forensic science, health, and medicine. The Alfred State College men's basketball team couldn't rally all the way back from an 18-point deficit and fell 84-74 to Niagara CCC in their final road contest of the season.  NCCC improves to 19-8 on the year.

Keady’s presentation, “Behind the Swoosh: Sweatshops and Social Justice,” recounts his experience of spending one month in an Indonesian slum living with Nike factory workers on $1.25 per day, a typical wage, and his decades-long effort to end sweatshop abuses. He will also show audience members what they can do to get involved and join this fight for justice.
