How do I apply for Financial Aid?

Students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA may be filed electronically on the Federal Student Aid. For detailed instructions, please see our financial aid page.

When will I hear about my financial aid offers?

Accepted students or current students who have filed a FAFSA will begin to receive financial aid offer letters in late November or approximately 3 weeks after you file your completed FAFSA, whichever date is later. Once a processed FAFSA has been received by Alfred State, students may also check the status of their aid and any requirements on my.AlfredState.edu. Students with an active campus e-mail account will receive financial aid notices via their e-mail account.

What academic scholarships are available?

There are a variety of scholarships available. A Financial Aid brochure Resource Guide is included in the acceptance folder. Information regarding any scholarship application procedures are outlined in the guide. If an incoming student wants more information, they should contact the Admissions Office at 607-587-4215 or 1-800-4-ALFRED.

Is it possible to appeal the financial aid being offered?

Yes. If you or your family are experiencing any type of change in income, family size or other forms of economic hardship it is possible to appeal your offer. The appeal needs to be in writing and may require certain types of documentation. Contact the Student Records and Financial Services Office for more information and assistance.

How do I access BannerWeb?

  1. In BannerWeb click Continue, then click on: Enter Secure Area
  2. Login: Enter your Social Security Number - e.g., 999999999 - or your Alfred State Student ID Number (begins with 800), and your login PIN.

First Time Users

Login to Banner Web using your student ID #, which begins with 800. If you do not know this, you can use your SS#. Your student ID # and initial PIN will be sent to you after applying to Alfred State. It will be mailed to the address listed on your application.

After you enter your user ID and PIN, you will be asked to create a new login PIN (six characters, alpha, numeric digits, or a combination of both.) This screen will ask you to re-enter your initial PIN (which is randomly generated) and then enter your new six-character PIN, and to verify your new PIN. Click on Login.

Returning Users

Use the login PIN number you created the first time you used the system. If you have forgotten your PIN, enter your User ID (Social Security # or your 800 Student Number), and click on Forgot Pin. Your self-established hint question will appear. When you answer this question correctly, Banner Web will allow you to reset your PIN. Please remember your response to your hint question is case sensitive.

NOTE: WHEN CREATING YOUR NEW LOGIN PIN, BE SURE TO MAKE IT: 1) easy to remember, and 2) a six-character alpha-numeric PIN. The feature requiring you to submit a self-established hint question and answer will assist you if you forget your PIN in the future.

Should I submit the acceptance deposit now?

It is to your benefit to submit the deposit by the due date. By doing so, you will secure a spot in your chosen major as well as in the residence hall if living on campus. You can also sign up for orientation once the deposit is paid. If you submit the deposit and then decide not to attend Alfred State, you have until May 1 to request in writing a full refund.

What are housing costs?

The room cost is based on the type (standard double, single, or townhouse) and/or size (small, large, or double single) of room. Each residential student is required to purchase a meal plan which should be figured in when you're planning your budget.

Will I receive a 1098-T tax form?

The 1098-T tax forms are mailed in January from Albany. You will not receive a 1098-T if the total of your scholarships and grants (free aid) exceeds the total of your eligible college charges. Spring tuition bills are invoiced in November therefore the Spring eligible college charges will be included on the tax form for the year the bill was invoiced. Eligible college charges include tuition, college fee, activity fee, athletic fee, technology fee, health fee, transportation fee, fitness center fee, course fees and transcript fee.

What are the advantages of a campus spending account?

The campus spending account is designed to give students an account to manage college expenses like books, supplies and special meals. CSA funds save time and hassle and can be spent at the Campus Stores, vending machines, dining facilities and with our campus partners. When you pay your bill, we recommend a CSA amount, but that amount can be completely deleted from your bill, or you can add to it. The minimum amount that can be added to the card is $10. The student photo ID card is swiped like a debit card when you make a purchase using CSA funds. As purchases are made, the account balance is reduced by that amount.
