Tips for a Successful College Visit

Call the Admissions Office to schedule an appointment.

During the academic year at Alfred State you may take a guided campus tour and also meet with representatives from an academic department, Financial Aid, the Learning Assistance Office, and Admissions, as appropriate. Campus tours, Financial Aid appointments, and Admissions interviews are also available when school is not in session. If you're meeting with Admissions, it's a good idea to schedule this appointment after your other visits so we can follow up with answers to any questions.

Bring relevant documents with you.

Bring a copy of your high school transcript if meeting with an Admissions counselor, and financial information, i.e., latest tax returns, if meeting with a representative from Financial Aid.

When scheduling your appointment, request travel directions, a campus map, a catalog, and any special interest information you would like.

Once you make an appointment to visit Alfred State, we will send you confirmation of your scheduled visit along with a Visitors' Guide which gives detailed directions, suggestions for overnight accommodations, campus maps, and other important travel information.

Make a list of questions you would like to ask.

At Alfred State, your campus tour usually is given by a current student so be sure to take advantage of this person's knowledge. You may want to ask what attracted your tour guide to the school, about extracurricular activities, the residence halls, etc. See our Questions to Ask When Selecting a College page for some ideas.
