Simon Whitehouse (Input, Learner, Intellection, Ideation, Futuristic) is a mathematician who first appeared on the Alfred State campus fall 2008. Even in his relatively young age, Simon’s road to Alfred, NY was anything but linear. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and spent the first years of his life living in Rome, Italy. Ironically he is neither South African nor Italian, but British by birthright. He then moved to Corning, NY at the age of 4. He left Corning twice, once to spend three years in Syracuse, NY where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics while also majoring in philosophy, and then again for two years, traveling to Buffalo, NY in order to get a Master’s degree in mathematics. His teaching career began summer 2001 when he was hired part-time at Corning Community College. It was from there that he was hand-picked by the Mathematics department at Alfred State to become a full-time member of the department there.
When he is not in front a classroom full of eager students ready to enjoy a lecture on the finer points of mathematics, Simon is keeping himself busy by spending time with his family. Simon has been married to his wife, Sherrice, since the summer of 2011. He has four children. His twin girls, Star and Lily, are 10 years old, his son Cohle is 8, and the newest addition is his baby daughter, Chloe, who is 16 months old. The Whitehouse family enjoys spending time together doing outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and sports. Simon was an avid runner as a youth which took a toll on his knees but every once in a while he is motivated enough to go for a jog. Simon enjoys reading a variety of genres. He also enjoys furthering his education, always eager to learn about new topics in mathematics and philosophy. Decker!
