Professional Experience: 

Before joining Alfred State, Dr. Jon Owejan was at the General Motors Electrochemical Energy Research Laboratory, where he worked from 2004 to 2012. He led electrochemical transport research by coordinating the activities of researchers at GM, national labs, and universities. The focus of his research was multi-scale transport in lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells.  He has developed several diagnostic techniques for characterizing transport at various length scales. Through collaboration with NIST, he also developed and applied several neutron methods for diagnostics and characterization of electrochemical systems.  He was the principle investigator for “Investigation of Micro- and Macro-Scale Transport Processes for Improved Fuel Cell Performance,” funded by the U.S. Department of Energy ($5.4M, 2010-2013) and “Application of Neutron Metrology Methods to Electrochemical Systems,” funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology ($1.3M, 2010-2013).  He has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and has 29 patents related to novel energy systems. Dr. Owejan founded the Energy Storage and Conversion (ESC) lab at Alfred State where his research is focused on energy conversion devices.
