Born To Fight

Submitted by guntheae on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 2:18pm

Here at Alfred, Civic Engagement is huge! Getting involved in the community is something that a lot of students want to get involved in. Because of this, we are building a student leadership center where clubs and organizations will have "store fronts" to showcase what they are all about. There is going to be a rock climbing wall and a cafe as well. This building will be centered around civic engagement. Here you can make anything happen if you want it to. Recently a family member of mine has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

New Greeks to campus!

Submitted by guntheae on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 2:10pm

This fall my sorority has put through six new girls. We have doubled the size of our house in one semester! The Greek community on campus has grown to about 150 students. As Greeks we hold the highest GPA's on campus, our GPA's surpass any other club or organizations GPA. We also do the most community service projects on campus. I love the Alfred State Greek Life, it isn't what you see in the movies and here a sorority or fraternity can be for anyone. We have anything from musical sororities to sororities and fraternities that like to be outdoors.

Boo Cancer Event

Submitted by guntheae on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 1:17pm

Yesterday (Sunday October, 30th), a club that I am a part of, Up 'Til Dawn, put on a Halloween party. The party was held in Pioneer Lounge, which is located on lower campus, and it was held to create awareness for childhood cancer and awareness for St. Judes Children's hospital. The event consisted of two minute to win it games and two basic Halloween games, donuts on a string and the toilet paper mummy game. We also had a costume contest and a trivia contest. Everyone who won those games got a prize. We had freshly popped popcorn, candy, and homemade apple cider.

Submitted by guntheae on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 12:31pm

On October 16th (this past Sunday), Alfred State College had one of our fall open houses. At open house I helped give campus tours. Those who were attending open house got to take a campus tour, go on a department tour, see an presentation and they got to eat lunch at one of our dining options here on campus. During the campus tour the groups viewed two residence hall, one corridor style and one suite style.

Fall in Alfred

Submitted by guntheae on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 12:20pm

It's another beautiful fall season in Alfred! One things I love about the fall here is the hills. The hills are full of beautiful, colorful trees. From the residence halls here at Alfred you can view all of these colorful trees while you are studying or just hanging out in you room. It is also visible while sitting in the library doing homework. From the quiet study area there is an amazing view of the hills across from our campus. I don't have views like this in Boston, so being able to see it here is quite a privilege and is just one of the reasons I love being in Alfred.

Up 'til Dawn

Submitted by guntheae on Wed, 10/05/2011 - 4:30pm

Recently I have joined the club Up 'til Dawn. This student run club spreads awareness to childhood cancer. It is a national organization that is run by St. Judes Hospital. Last week we talked about our upcoming Halloween party that we are going to put on. We are going to have it the Sunday before Halloween and have various activities going on. I took on the position of Treasurer and Recruitment Chair because I do both of these for my sorority so I had a good idea of what needed to be done for those positions.

Greek Week

Submitted by guntheae on Wed, 10/05/2011 - 4:21pm

Last week was Greek Week on campus. Greek week is a week where the sororities and fraternities on campus come together and do multiple activities. There is an all Greek rush that takes place in the beginning of the week where everyone who is interested in Greek life and come and mingle with different houses to figure out which one fits them the best. At the all Greek rush each house had to present an activity. My sorority, Psi Sigma psi, decided we were going to dig for trivia.

My day as an Alfred State student

Submitted by guntheae on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 10:33am

So let me start off with introducing myself, I'm Anne and I am just starting my 3rd year, my 5th semester, here at Alfred State College. I am a liberal arts and social science major and I absolutely love it. I originally started here at Alfred as an Interior design major, although it is a great program, I decided it wasn't for me. I began the liberal arts program in order to take classes having to do with psychology. This is my last semester here at Alfred and I will be sad to leave.
