Lisa Boyle is a behind-the-scenes extraordinaire. Before students sign on for their first online courses, she has already swept through, making sure each online lab assignment, forum, update, and application runs smoothly. “We use the actual software applications that our graduates will be using in the HIM and CRS fields as employees,” says Tracy Locke, associate professor and HIT and CRS program director. “It takes a lot of time and attention to detail to tweak assignments and address issues with vendors when they occur. The ISA helps troubleshoot issues with both faculty and students to ensure the software applications are working correctly for students to complete their assignments.”

Boyle received her associate degree in medical record technology from Alfred State and became a registered health information technician nearly a decade before returning to Alfred State to lend her expertise to the program as an ISA. She previously served in diverse roles such as director of health information management at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell and as an independently contracted transcriptionist at Canisteo Valley Transcription Specialists.

As an ISA, Boyle also acts as a liaison between the college, the healthcare facility where a likely professional practice experience (PPE) will take place, and the student applying for or completing the PPE. This means she is the go-to resource for everyone from health care administration personnel to potential new students. She helps set up and oversee these crucial professional experiences so that students get the hands-on training they need to be top candidates when they graduate.
