Designated and Memorial Gifts

Designated and memorial gifts are another of the many ways you can invest in Alfred State's future. Please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for additional information or advice on your personal situation.

Designated Gifts - A donor may wish to designate a gift for a particular school, program, or purpose. To accomplish this, simply place your request in writing and submit it along with your gift to the College, or you may use our online giving form.

Donors receive full credit for gifts designated to specific needs at the College.

Memorial Gifts - If you have been inspired by an exceptional individual or suffered the loss of a family member or friend, you may wish to recognize this special relationship through a gift to Alfred State.

Memorial gifts are placed in the College's annual fund, unless otherwise designated by the donor. When making a memorial gift, please include following information along with your donation:

  • Name of the deceased and date of death
  • A copy of the obituary, if available
  • Name of surviving family member, benefactor, or estate executor to whom notice of the gift should be sent
  • Name, address, and telephone number of the principal donor
  • Amount of each donation included in gift total

Alfred State will send an acknowledgement to the surviving family with the name and address of the donor, but not the amount of the gift. Special funds may be set up in the name of the deceased, if requested, depending on the amount of the gift and whether donors intend to make additional gifts in the future.

Endowments/Annual Scholarships

Endowments can be established for student scholarships, faculty chairs and academic programs. An endowment fund preserves capital, offers long-term growth, keeps pace with or exceeds inflation, and can offer significant tax advantages to the donor. An endowment can be named for the donor or in honor of the person or persons of the donor's choice. Endowments can be created at a minimum gift level of $10,000.

Planned Giving

Planned giving benefits both Alfred State College and the donor by providing an exceptional education to students of Alfred State while giving the donor the lasting joy of making a difference. A planned gift can also offer significant tax advantages and life income arrangements.

Gifts from your estate can include:

  • Charitable Bequests
  • Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Gifts of Life Insurance
  • Gifts of Retirement Assets
  • Charitable Trusts
  • Gifts of Real Estate
