Resources For Tutors

Tutoring is the largest support service provided at Alfred State. Knowing this, it is important tutors have the resources necessary to appropriately support each student's request for assistance.

Below are resources available to all tutors after they have been approved for tutoring:

  • Tutor Training Manual
  • Access to the Blackboard Tutoring Forum, which includes:
    • Training Videos on the following topics:
      • Role of the Tutor
      • Positive Reinforcement
      • Fostering the Student's Ideas
      • Importance of Student Verbalization
      • Questioning Skills
      • Helping Students Become Independent Learners
      • Direct Techniques
    • Reading Materials
    • Study Resources/Templates

Anyone interested in accessing these materials, please contact Casey Cowburn, Tutoring Coordinator (Alfred campus), at cowburc@alfredstate.edu.
