SART

What is SART?

SART stands for the Sexual Assault Response Team. SART was formed to assist Alfred State students who had been victims of sexual assault, and to help educate the college community about sexual misconduct.

What/who is a SART Advocate?

A Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Advocate is a volunteer Alfred State College staff or faculty member that has received training in assisting victims of sexual assaults. A SART advocate's role is:

• To make sure the victim feels as safe and comfortable as possible
• To make sure the victim knows their rights
• To encourage the victim to receive medical attention
• To make sure that the victim's wishes are carried out
• To encourage the victim to report the assault to UPD

SART advocates can accompany the victim to the hospital, to UPD to give a report, to counseling services, and even through the judicial process. The main role of the SART advocate is to provide support and assistance. Upon request, a SART advocate can make appropriate referrals for the victim to counseling appointments, meetings with lawyers, medical appointments, etc.

How do I report a sexual assault?

To report a sexual assault you may do any one of the following:

• Tell your RA/HRA
• Tell Your Hall Director/AD
• Call University Police x 3999
• Tell any other professional on the Alfred or Wellsville campuses
