STEM Education

SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and WEP (Women Engineers are Pioneers)

We reach out to the community to stress STEM education in high schools. Our focus is encouraging young people to be interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, especially girls and young women.

The vision of SAE and WEP is that Alfred State expands the image of the engineering profession as positive force in improving the quality of life.

SAE and WEP have paired together to show elementary, middle, and high school students their potential in a STEM field and to also apply our skills for project based learning. There are two problems we are looking to change. First, a lot of kids are disinterested in math and science. The other issue is a documented and notable lack of females in technology fields. Girls may think they do not belong in STEM majors, unless they are exposed to it through family members, other role models or outreach events. We strive to create an inclusive environment for women and to inspire youth in the community to enjoy STEM.
