Alfred State sophomore forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has been named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week. Witchella leads the 8-2 Lady Pioneers in scoring and rebounding.
Witchella’s superior presence inside the paint anchored the Pioneers’ two wins last week. Edging Penn College of Technology 66-62, Alfred State was led by Witchella’s game-high 29 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and six blocks. The sophomore came back with 22 points and 23 rebounds as the Pioneers dismissed Finger Lakes CC 65-50.
On the season, Witchella is averaging 20.2 points per game and 14.9 rebounds. She has nine double-doubles, including the last seven games, and has scored 20 or more points in the last seven games.
Witchella and the Lady Pioneers head to the Onondaga CC Tournament this weekend. They take on Sullivan County CC in their first round match-up on Saturday.
