The Alfred State baseball team was swept by Monroe CC on Saturday in a WNYAC doubleheader. The Tribunes won the opener 4-2 in 8-innings and earned a 15-0 win in game two.
In the opener, Alfred State tied the game at 2-2 with two outs in the 7th on a RBI single by Anthony Gonzalez (Florida/SS Seward Institute). MCC answered right back in the 8th and plated two runs to earn the victory.
Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) was 2 for 3 with a RBI to pace the offense. Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA) went the distance on the mound. He went eight innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked six.
In the nightcap, Monroe scored four in the 3rd, two in the 4th, 3rd in the 5th, and six in the 6th to cruise the victory. The Pioneers collected just one hit a 6th inning single by Anthony Garcia (Flushing/Bayside).
The blue & gold take the field again on Sunday when they host Niagara CCC for a doubleheader starting at Noon.
