The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Alfred State College will host its Human Services Awareness Day, Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 1-3 p.m. in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus. This event affords human services students at the college, as well as human services alumni and community services graduates in the community, an opportunity to meet with representatives from local and regional human services agencies to gain information about the field and about opportunities in the field. Each agency will have a display table and agency representatives informing attendees about the agency and its programs. Local human services agencies scheduled to attend this year’s event include Turning Point, Hornell; The ARC of Steuben, Bath; Alfred Montessori School, Alfred; Allegany Council's Prevention Dept., Wellsville; Allegany County Youth Bureau, Belmont; Allegany County ARC, Wellsville; Hillside Family of Agencies, Rochester; Allegany County Probation Department, Belmont; AmeriCorps Kids First Initiative, Bath; The Institute for Human Services, Inc., Bath; Center for Dispute Settlement, Hornell; Pralid, Inc., Rochester; Snell Family Children's Center, Bath; Steuben County Social Services, Bath; Faith in Action Steuben County, Hornell; Allegany County Office of the Aging, Belmont; Kinship Family & Youth Services, Hornell; Hornell Concern for Youth, Hornell; Accord Family & Community, Belmont. Agency representatives welcome those interested in, or holding credentials in, human services. The format for this event will be similar to a job fair, but the organizations are recruiting interns and community service volunteers as well as employees. The organizations are looking for people currently in human service/social service programs or holding degrees in those fields.
The Human Services Program is reviving this Awareness Day event after a several year break to inform agencies about the new BS in Human Services Management degree program as well as to promote connections among our human services students, faculty, and the agencies.
