Mark Amman [1], professor and acting chair, Physical and Health Sciences Department [2] at Alfred State College, met with members of the Alfred State College Honors Program and biology students in February to explain how high-energy, high-caffeine drinks affect the human body physically and mentally. Describing the popularity and high consumption of these drinks as a ‘huge experiment,’ he detailed the good and bad chemical and nutritional effects and the biochemistry behind those effects. Amman’s presentation is the first in a series of Honors Seminars to be presented this spring.
