Alfred State College sophomore forward Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III Female Athlete of the Week. Smith had double-doubles in both of the Lady Pioneers victories this past week.
Last Tuesday, Smith led ASC to a 78-72 victory over Finger Lakes CC with 18 points and 26 rebounds (11 of her rebounds were on the offensive glass). She was 5 for 14 from the field and 8 for 12 from the foul line.
On Saturday, Smith recorded her 9th double-double of the year in a 78-71 victory over SUNY Orange. She finished with 22 points and 18 rebounds. She was 7 for 17 from the field and 8 for 8 from the foul line. She also added three steals in 31 minutes of play.
For the season, Smith is 2nd on the Lady Pioneers with 16.8 points per game and leads the Lady Pioneers with 14.5 rebounds per game. She also has 31 steals and 13 assists on the year.
A-State finished the 2007 portion of their season with a 9-3 record. The Blue and Gold have won three in a row and eight of their last nine games. They do not return to action until January 20 when they host Medaille JV at 2 p.m.
