The Alfred State College women's soccer team has earned the #11 seed in the Region III Division III Tournament after a 7-7-1 regular season. The Lady Pioneers will travel to #6 SUNY Delhi (10-4-1) on Saturday for a first round contest at 1 p.m.
Alfred and Delhi tied at 2-2 in the first week of the season. ASC took a early lead on a Brittany Hannah (Eastridge) goal. The Lady Broncos tied it in the 2nd half but Hannah gave the Pioneers the lead with her second goal of the game. Delhi scored late in the contest to send the game into overtime but neither team could find the back of the net. Philicia Harris (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) made 30 saves in net while Breanna Gaulf made six saves for Delhi.
Hannah leads the Lady Pioneers with 35 points (14 goals and 7 assists) while Jody Ninos (Alfred Almond) finished with 29 points (10 goals and 9 assists). Ashleigh Houghtaling (Northern Potter, PA) and Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) each scored four goals for ASC. Harris has played in every minute except for 25 in net for the A-State and has a 2.81 goals against average.
The winner of this first round contest will travel to #3 Herkimer CCC for a quarterfinal match-up on Tuesday October 23.
