Brittany Hannah (Eastridge) and Jody Ninos (Alfred Almond) each scored two goals and passed out an assist as the Alfred State College women's soccer team downed Erie CC 5-1 on Thursday afternoon. The win was the Lady Pioneers third straight and improved the team to 6-5-1 overall and 5-5-1 in Region III Division III play.
Ninos got the scoring going just minutes into the contest when she scored on a break-a-way after getting a pass from Hannah. Hannah made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when she put a nice touch past the goalie after getting a pass from Ninos.
Kaitlyn Schelble netted a goal from Sarah Kaczmarek with five minutes remaining to send the game to half 2-1.
Caitlin Meeder (LeRoy) made it 3-1 when her header off of a corner kick by Kaila Smith (Alfred Almond) found the back of the net. Hannah scored her 2nd of the contest four minutes later after getting a pass from Ashleigh Houghtaling (Northern Potter, PA). Ninos closed the scoring in the final minutes when she chipped a shot over the goalies head. Rebecca Trexler (Faith Heritage) got the assist.
Pioneer goaltender Philicia Harris (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) made eight saves while Kat goalie Alexa Wisel made 16 saves.
The Lady Pioneers look to continue their hot streak on Saturday when they travel to Cayuga CC for an important Region III Division III battle. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
