Alfred State College 100th Anniversary
2007-08 marked the 100th anniversary of the NYS School of Agriculture at Alfred University which was established May 8, 1908, when NYS Gov. Charles Evans Hughes signed a bill creating what has evolved into Alfred State College.
We are excited and honored to have reached this milestone. A year-long celebration, encompassing a variety of activities, included participation in local parades; a display of historical photos at Steuben Trust in Hornell; and the return of the "Taste of Wellsville" on the School of Applied Technology campus during Family Weekend. A display was mounted in the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce window. An "official" kick-off dinner, which welcomed alumni as well as present and former faculty and staff, was held in November 2007, with the release of a new ASC history book and a "signing" by the book's authors. A fun-filled and educational day was attended by many Thursday, May 8, 2008, where academic departments highlighted their various programs on campus.
