Intramural Rules: Softball

Games are 45 minutes or 6 innings whichever comes first. No new inning may start after 45 minutes has elapsed.
- Each batter will start with one ball and one strike.
- Maximum arc of pitch will be 10 feet from the point of release. Minimum arc will be 5 feet.
- Metal spikes are not allowed.
- No bunting, leading or stealing.
- Illegal Pitch:
- quick return pitch
- flat or too high pitch
- Speed up intentional walk will be used. Only 3 intentional walks per game allowed. No 1 player can be intentionally walked twice.
- Each team will consist of 10 players and a designated hitter is optional.
- A.S.A. substitution rule will be used. e.g., Smith LF, Jones 5th LF, Smith 7th LF
- Teams must have 7 players to start the game.
- A game is considered over if one team is ahead by 10 runs after four innings.
- Any balls that go in the high grass will be declared home runs.
- In case of a courtesy runner it must be the person who made the last out (unless that person is injured).
- Each team is responsible for chasing their own foul balls and home runs.
- After a batter has two strikes, he is allowed one foul ball. On the second foul ball, he is declared out.
- A runner is out whenever he leaves the bases without the batter having made contact with the ball.
- Each team is required to keep the scoresheet when they are up to bat.
- A mat will be used, any pitch that hits homeplate or the mat will be a strike.
- Line-up must be arranged male then female.
- The remaining rules will comply with the Ameteur Softball Association.
