Effective for students who matriculate (new students enrolling in a degree granting program) beginning spring 2011 and after:
The State University General Education Requirement (SUNY-GER) necessitates all baccalaureate students to satisfactorily complete at least 30 credit hours in basic communication (written and oral) and mathematics plus additional courses from at least five of the following eight other general education knowledge areas: natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, Western civilization American history, other world civilizations, the arts, and/or foreign language. Although the SUNY trustees' mandate applies to only baccalaureate students, Alfred State has determined to set similar requirements for many of its associate degree programs as well. This was done in accordance with our curriculum reform initiative and to better serve our students as they transfer to four-year programs. The specific requirements for all Alfred State degrees currently stand as:
| Program | Learning Outcomes |
