Description:
CHEM 2124 is a continuation of CHEM 1114, and is aimed at science majors. It completes the presentation of General Chemistry topics started in CHEM 1114 by surveying the topics of: acid & bases, titrations and nuclear chemistry. After these foundations are laid, the course will then survey two broad chemical domains:
- Organic Chemistry, where the language and chemistry of selected functional groups (alkanes, alenes, alcohols, aromatics, carbonyls and carboxylic acids) will be covered, along with an exploration of chirality.
- Biochemistry, including the chemistry and structure of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleotides, along with selected topics in the chemistry of genetics (DNA/RNA) and nutrition.
