Salvation Army Advisory Board Scholarship

The recipient of the Salvation Army Advisory Board Scholarship will be eligible for up to one full year of tuition at Alfred State College.* The scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in the field of nursing or human services. The donor will make payment directly to the institution.

Qualifications

Applicants must be in their senior year of high school, possess a GED, or currently be enrolled as a student at Alfred State College.

Applicants must:

  • Be admitted into either nursing or human services at Alfred State College.
  • Be ranked in the upper 50 percent of their class.
  • Demonstrate positive relationships with other students, contribute to the community, and demonstrate a good work ethic.
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Application Requirements

  • High school/college transcript or GED
  • Two letters of recommendation: one academic reference from a teacher/instructor and one character reference
  • An essay not to exceed 500 words in which the student describes himself/herself and explains why he/she wishes to pursue a career in the chosen field of study. The essay should include a statement of need and any community volunteer service.

*A student receiving this award may reapply for a second year award by submitting a recommendation from a college adviser or an instructor in his/her major field and a transcript of his/her grades.

Selection Information

The scholarship recipient will be determined by a committee consisting of the donor, a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and one of the commanding officers.

Applications should be submitted to Alfred State College, Attn: Deborah Neu, Student Records and Financial Services Office, 10 Upper College Drive, Alfred, NY 14802. All applications must be submitted no later than May 1.

Non-Traditional Students

Non-Traditional students may use a GED in place of a high school diploma and/or any transcripts from an academic institution he/she attended in and one character reference. The applicant should submit the essay as described for high school seniors.
